The Start of Mombasa

Just a quick update for eveyone. Kyle and I have been in Mombasa for the past few days. The weather has cooperated until yesterday when we started getting fits and starts of showers. We've been lounging on the beach, taking long walks around the area of our hotel and eating some of the best food I've ever tasted. While the environment is just short of paradise, the internet and other amenities leave much to the imagination.

Today we head into the town center with our new friends, Marilyn and Chris, who are moving into the city for a few nights. We plan to see Fort Jesus and old Mombasa, and maybe run through some of the street vendors that line the street in the city. I think we probably will also see the famous tusks that arch over the city, placed years ago for a visit by Queen Elizabeth.

The stay here has been everything that Cairo was not and we have settled into the different pace with a sigh of relief. In many ways it seems like we are exhaling the smog and dust from Cairo, and breathing in the fresh, salty, sea air of the Indian ocean. Everything here is white and crisp and layed back. We don't walk but ten feet before a local yells to us "Hakuna Matata," "no worries in life" or "jambo!," welcome, welcome. Mombasa does really seem like paradise.

We hope to have some more pictures and posts up as the internet does (or doesn't) cooperate with us. At the very least we will have some more updates when we finally reach Kampala later this weekend. In the spirit of Kenya, "Hakuna Matata!"
